Vintage Overview

2016 was an unequivocally stunning vintage for Napa Valley and a watershed vintage for the Hourglass Estate. An important arrival point for us, the vines at Hourglass Estate have made that subtle but profound shift into maturity and winemaker Tony Biagi’s deft magic came alive in his fourth year stewarding the vineyard. This vintage represents the synthesis of a vision to refine our approach, hone our craft, and dance on that pinhead of tensional balance.

Tasting Profile

Formidable and stately showing the vintage’s natural concentration and seamlessly integrated structure. Textbook Hourglass aromatics of camphor and mint grounded by savory notes of hazelnut and earth. Across the palate, deep richness is electrified with lively natural acidity. Black fruits (currant and cassis) layer against a vibrant mid-palate red stripe of pomegranate and loamy minerality. Texturally sleek with polished, integrated tannins, the yin/yang of vibrancy and richness creates a harmonious, energetic wine.
