In 2014, we added a new vineyard to the sites on Larkmead Lane that made up our inaugural Sauvignon Blanc from the 2013 vintage. We also added the Varozza Vineyard in St. Helena - a winemaker’s nirvana. Planted to head-trained Sauvignon Blanc some 45 years ago, this magical vineyard may be the oldest Sauvignon Blanc site in the Napa Valley. The deeply rooted old-vine fruit adds a richness, depth and intensity to the more mineral driven Larkmead Lane sites, for another dimension to an already complex Sauvignon Blanc.
Primary aromas of lemon and lime zest, orange blossom and Granny Smith apples echo on the palate with flavors of limeade, hay, white peach, and vanilla bean. The old-vine fruit and component of new French oak barrel fermentations lend weight, while a wet stone minerality provides a wonderful counterbalance and vibrance. A worthy successor to the our inaugural vintage, the 2014 reflects the clear evolution in our young Sauvignon Blanc program.
